Sonora Celtic Faire

The Sonora Celtic Faire celebrates its 30th anniversary with festivities highlighting the best of Ireland, Scotland, Cornwall and Wales. The event will feature live jousting, music, re-enactments, food, vendors and more. Headliners include Celtica, Wicked Tinkers, Tempest, Stand Easy and others. For the first time the fair will include a Battle of the Nations competition.

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 11; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 12; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 13.

Lucky Fest

Downtown Modesto’s St. Patrick’s Day street party roars back for more fun. The open-air pub crawl will feature some 25 custom-built bars and attractions. Stops range from the Paddy Wagon to the Mustache Experience, Belfast Underground to the Green Flamingo. Entertainment includes live music, pro wrestling, food vendors, comedy shows and more.

Modesto Symphony Orchestra

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra continues its Pops Series with a dive in the Great American Songbook. The concert will feature guest vocalists and Broadway veterans Sarah Uriarte Berry and Doug LaBrecque singing the works of Berlin, Gershwin, Rodgers and more. Tony Award-nominated composer and conductor Larry Blank will guest conduct.

Terell Stafford

California State University, Stanislaus, culminates its Jazz Festival this weekend with a performance by Terell Stafford. The acclaimed New York-based trumpeter will appear with the Stanislaus State Jazz Ensemble. Stafford is also the director of jazz studies at Temple University and managing and artistic director of the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia.

Science on Screen

The Science on Screen series returns to the State Theatre with a look at the topic of fusion. The theater again partners with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for the event. Astrophysicist Tammy Ma will talk about her work with some of the world’s most powerful lasers. That will be followed by a screening of the sci-fi film “Star Trek: Into Darkness.”

NY Film Critics Series

The NY Film Critics Series brings in a sneak preview of the new Clive Owen film “The Confirmation.” The comedy follows a down-on-his-luck carpenter who searches with his son for the thieves who stole his toolbox. After the screening there will be an interactive Q&A with the audience and Owen, his co-star Jaeden Lieberher and writer/director Bob Nelson.
