Death of a Salesman

Prospect Theater Project tackles Arthur Miller’s most iconic play, “Death of a Salesman.” The familial drama centers on the hopes, dreams and disappointments of titular traveling salesman Willy Loman and his two sons. Prospect founding artistic director Jack Souza plays Willy Loman, and fellow company veteran Jenni Abbott plays his wife, Linda.

Chinese New Year

The Stanislaus Chinese Association presents it 44th annual party to mark the Year of the Monkey. The event will include cultural presentations and live entertainment including a traditional lion dance. There also will be food and a raffle. Advance tickets are available at Orient House, Imperial Garden and JP Asian Fusion restaurants in Modesto.

Latin Legends

Gallo Center for the Arts presents a show of Latin Legends. The concert will feature Tierra, Thee Midniters and Emilio: Modern Gypsy. Tierra came out of East L.A. in the 1970s and plays R&B. Thee Midniters was among the first Chicano rock bands to have a major hit in the United States. Emilio blends elements of Spanish flamenco guitar with other world music.

Modesto Marathon Movie & Wine Night

The Modesto Marathon presents its seventh annual Movie & Wine Night. The benefit for Teens Run Modesto will screen the Disney film “McFarland, USA” starring Kevin Costner. The movie tells the true story of a small-town cross country team near Bakersfield vying for the state championship. Evening includes food, wine, auctions, drawings and Q&A after the film. Coach Jim White, whose story is featured in the movie, will be at the event, along with two of the runners, Thomas Valles and Johnny Samaniego.

Chingo Bling

Mexican-born rapper, actor and comedian Chingo Bling returns to the region after playing X-Fest last summer. This time he will perform on his headlining Started From the Border Comedy Tour. Also performing will be comedians Midnite and Jesus Trejo. Born Pedro Herrera III, the entertainer has made Chingo Bling his over-the-top alter ego on stage.

Music at the GMC

The new Music at the GMC series from Modesto Unplugged and ModestoView continues this week. The intimate acoustic concert series will present folk-gypsy group Alzara & Brother Spellbinder and multi-instrumentalist and performance artist Eliza Rickman. The show also will feature gothic art displays by Kundalini Chrysalis.
