‘Sweeney Todd’
Townsend Opera brings the macabre musical “Sweeney Todd” to life. The Tony Award-winning Stephen Sondheim show about a 19th-century English barber who seeks his bloody revenge on those who wrongfully imprisoned him will get the full operatic treatment in this production. Stylized black-and-white set pieces will help set the tone for the story.

Science on Screen
Students, parents and teachers are invited to attend the free Science on Screen series screening of big-budget earthquake movie “San Andreas.” This is one of three events in partnership with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and will feature a talk by one of its seismologists/geophysicists about the real science behind quakes in the Bay Area.

Chinese New Year
Celebrate the Year of the Monkey with at the 10th annual Chinese New Year event presented by the Maddux Youth Center and the Stanislaus Chinese Culture Society. The celebration will include cultural dancing, singing, instrumental performances, martial arts displays and calligraphy demonstrations. The festivities are free and open to the public.

The McCartney Years
Billed as the “World’s No. 1 McCartney Tribute,” the stage act honors the performer in a recreation of his 1970s arena shows. The six-piece tribute act to Paul McCartney performs more than 30 top hits spanning more than 20 albums from The Beatles to Wings. The show will benefit the Modesto Rotary Club and its community projects.
