In brief: MJC dancers prep Off-Balance show
Modesto Junior College presents an evening of modern and contemporary dance from Off-Balance.
The MJC dance company presents the show “Through Line” starting Wednesday, Feb. 17, and running at 7 p.m. each night through Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on the MJC East Campus. The production will feature a cast of 25 dancers who will seek to express the spoken word through movement. Joining the production is guest choreographer Holly Johnston from Long Beach, who has prepared a special piece inspired by the writings of U.S. poet laureate Juan Felipe Herrera.
The dancers studied Herrera’s poetry and selected poems to create a movement vocabulary. The concert will also include choreography by Kim T. Davis and Lori Bryhni, Off-Balance choreographer Rebbecca Meyers and MJC student choreographer Andrew Merrill. Guest performers include Gregori, Beyer and Davis High School dancers, as well as Strut Performing Arts students.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors. On student preview night Wednesday, Feb. 17, tickets are $5. For more information, call 209-575-6776 or visit www.mjc.tix.com.
