The first of the intimate acoustic programs will be Saturday, Jan. 16, featuring Clyde’s On Fire, a group from Asheville, N.C. According to a press release, Clyde’s on Fire brings smoky vocals to “old-soul Americana.”

The new series from Modesto Unplugged and ModestoView will run through June 17, with concerts set for Friday or Saturday nights each month.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for the January show, with music beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Gottschalk Music Center, 1502 E St., Modesto. Tickets are $15 general admission; free to age 12 and under. For reservations, call 209-543-5306 or email modestounplugged@yahoo.com.

‘Ovations’ in Calaveras series

The Mountain Melody Women’s Chorus opens the 2016 Calaveras Arts Council Ovations series.

The chorus will perform Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the Dr. Elliott Smart Performing Arts Center at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp. This year’s Ovations series is dedicated to the spirit of healing in the wake of the Butte Fire that impacted Calaveras County.

The program for the opening show will feature spirited songs like “All Aboard,” “Respect,” “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat” and many others. The box office opens at 2 p.m. and the performance runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10-$25.

The series is presented annually by the nonprofit Calaveras County Arts Council. For more, see www.calaverasarts.org.

New exhibit planned at Carnegie

An exhibit at the Carnegie Arts Center debuting later this month features sculptures by Oakdale artist Betty Saletta.

Saletta has been creating sculptures in her Oakdale studio for more than 25 years and is known in local art circles for her public projects. The Carnegie retrospective will include studies for monuments, as well as small-scale bronzes and portraits, “allowing insight into the complex process of modeling, enlarging and casting works in bronze,” according to a press release.

Saletta’s works will be on view from Wednesday, Jan. 27, through Sunday, March 20, in the Carnegie Arts Center’s Ferrari Gallery, 250 N. Broadway in Turlock. An opening reception for the artist is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m.
