In brief: Elegy concert at Center Stage
Center Stage Conservatory presents an homage on Friday, Dec. 18, to artists lost in the past year.
The Elegy show, held last year at the Peer Recovery Art Project, will celebrate the music of famous artists who have died. This third annual show will feature a slew of local musicians playing the songs of late legends B.B. King, Percy Sledge, Ben E. King, Allen Toussaint, Lesley Gore and others. Performing will be Patty Castillo Davis, Anthony Edwards, Nikki Chiverrel, Patty Hughes, Josh Davenport, Big Earl Matthews and others.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will run from 7- to 9 p.m. at Center Stage Conservatory’s Lower Level Studio. The all-ages show will be a fundraiser for conservatory. Christmas on Main
The Escalon Chamber of Commerce celebrates the season with its annual Christmas on Main on Saturday, Dec. 12.
The event includes a parade of lights, visit from Santa, vendor fair and more. There will be performances by the Escalon High School Band and Powerhouse Dance Studio. The public is invited to roast marshmallows and make s’mores over fire pits.
The celebration runs from 3 to 8 p.m. on Main Street in Escalon. Admission is free. Call 209-838-2793.
Rockin’ Holiday
The Christmas cheer continues with Rockin’ Holiday.
The annual retro holiday celebration at Tenth Street Plaza kicked off last weekend and continues each weekend with festivities every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights up until Christmas week in downtown Modesto. The event includes a 50-foot lighted Christmas tree, ’50s and ’60s era decorations, snow machines and live music.
The event runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, with performances by Rockin Rick & the Rhythm Wranglers, Johnny Devil and his Sins and more. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/rockinholiday.
Third Thursday Art Walk
Enjoy the final Third Thursday Art Walk of 2015 next week.
The Dec. 17 event will highlight local artists at more than a half-dozen galleries and venues in downtown Modesto. The always-free, self-guided community event gives the public a chance to see the work of area artists and craftspeople and meet with some of the creators and groups showcased. Some venues offer live music and light refreshments.
