Dickens Faire

Ring in the holidays with downtown Modesto’s annual Dickens Faire. The celebration harks back to the era of “A Christmas Carol” with music, vendors, a craft fair and strolling carolers outside the McHenry Mansion. Inside the mansion, costumed docents will give tours of the house decked out for the holidays. Carriage rides will be available.

Celebration of Lights/Rockin’ Holiday

The city of Modesto kicks off its official holiday festivities with the annual illuminated Celebration of Lights parade through downtown. After the parade, trees will be set aglow outside Modesto Centre Plaza. The event also kicks off the Rockin’ Holiday shows at 10th Street Plaza in December, which will feature live music, lights, retro decorations and snow.

‘The Elves & The Shoemaker’

California Theatre Center brings back the holiday favorite “The Elves & The Shoemaker.” The children’s show about two elves who arrive in a village in the Black Forest and meet a shoemaker has been performed at the Gallo Center each year since it opened in 2007. The show is sponsored in remembrance of the late community advocate Bette Belle Smith.

Warren Miller’s ‘Chasing Shadows’

Warren Miller Entertainment presents its 66th annual winter sports film, “Chasing Shadows.” This year’s film follows some of the biggest names in skiing and snowboarding as they chase storms and snow along the world’s biggest peaks. The screenings are a fundraiser for the Society for Disabilities Winter Skiing Unlimited program.

Turlock Christmas Parade

The city of Turlock celebrates its 37th annual Downtown Christmas Parade. The lighted parade along Main Street begins at Canal Drive will celebrate the theme “A Down Home Country Christmas” this year. Holiday music and vendors will be set up as part of the event.

Latkes & Vodkas

Congregation Beth Shalom presents its popular annual fundraising event Latkes & Vodkas. The evening festivities include food, drinks and dancing to live music by the Kyle Barker Band and Hot Club Faux Gitane. New this year will be a cigar lounge and southern spirits. All proceeds from this event benefit CBS Youth Programs and the area Jewish community.
