In brief: Women’s Music Fest workshop set
Modesto’s California Women’s Music Festival (formerly the Northern California Women’s Festival) is hosting another workshop featuring industry veterans for aspiring sound engineers and music managers.
The nonprofit is teaming with its partner SoundGirls.org to host a tour managing/front-of-house (FOH) engineer workshop Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Rock ’n’ Roll Warehouse, 501 Bitritto Way. The session will again feature Pearl Jam monitor engineer Karrie Keyes as well as special guest Rachel Ryan, monitor engineer for The Strokes.
The three-hour session will explore the often dual role of the tour manager/FOH engineer. The workshop will run from noon tp 3 p.m. and the fee is $45. Light refreshments will be provided, and financial assistance is available. For more information, visit www.soundgirls.org.
MJC family holiday concert
The Modesto Junior College music department presents its “The Night Before Christmas – Family Holiday Concert” on Saturday, Dec. 5.
The MJC choirs and guests will present a family-friendly program of traditional Christmas music, favorite children’s songs, excerpts from “The Grinch” movie and a musical production of the poem “A Visit From St. Nicholas.” Guest performers will include several children’s groups including Juline School of Dance, YES Company, Suzuki Strings and more.

Sounds of the Season
The Columbia College Community Chorus presents its annual “Sounds of the Season” concert.
The chorus, led by conductor Daryl Hollinger, will perform a program of choral music spanning centuries, from secular to spiritual songs. The chorus features some 40 singers and will be accompanied by a full orchestra.

Sierra Repertory Theatre Jr.
Sierra Repertory Theatre Jr. debuts the original musical “The Littlest Pirate” opening Saturday, Dec. 5.
The production was written by Sierra Rep education director Ralph Krumins and follows a young pirate named Bucket who was left as a baby with a ruthless, swashbuckling crew.
Krumins will play Swarthrat the Pirate, joined by local actress Caroline Walsh as Gull, Anthony Milfelt as Captain Pudding, and actors Lauren Tangenberg and Austin Paris alternating in the role of Bucket.

Hot Club Faux Gitane
Check out Central Valley gypsy jazz band Hot Club Faux Gitane this week at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock.
This acoustic swing band plays in the Gypsy jazz tradition of Django Reinhardt and his Quintette du Hot Club de France. The show is held in conjunction with the ongoing “Alphonse Mucha: The Golden Age of Art Nouveau” exhibit running through Jan. 10 at the downtown Turlock gallery.

MythBusters Jamie & Adam Unleashed
The popular series “MythBusters” bring its touring show “Jamie & Adam Unleashed” to Stockton’s Bob Hope Theatre this week.
The Discovery show hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage will do onstage experiments with audience participation and offer up video and behind-the-scenes stories from the series. Hyneman has announced that this will be his last year doing the live tour.
