Local crafters and lovers of local crafts can get a jump on the holiday gift-giving season at the second annual Mod Shop: Indie Crafters Market in downtown Modesto. The event, which grew out of the former Hand Born Modern Craft Bazaar, features about 60 vendors selling one-of-a-kind items from clothing and artwork to accessories. The market, which is part of the Small Business Saturday movement, will be spread across a number of downtown locations including the Peer Recovery Art Project, Deva Cafe, Concetta, Mira’s Bridal, Modesto Chamber of Commerce, Preservation Coffee and Tea and the Mistlin Gallery. There will be live music throughout and local musicians busking on the street.

Christmas Wonderland
Tonal Vision presents a Christmas Wonderland show. The musical event will feature soprano Shawnette Sulker, who has been featured in three San Francisco Opera productions, with fellow performers Jonno, Shuntavia and special guests. The show will feature traditional, contemporary and original Christmas music.

‘Frozen’ singalong
Let it go at the State Theatre’s screening of the hit Disney animated film “Frozen.” The special singalong screening will allow audiences to join in with the film’s stars Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell and Jonathan Groff. The film won two Academy Awards earlier this year, for best animated feature and best original song for its signature hit, “Let It Go.”

Sonora Christmas Festival
Get into the holiday spirit at the popular weekend-long Sonora Christmas Festival. The 40th annual Mother Lode celebration of the season features three stages of live entertainment, street performers, craft vendors, food and drink. Check out the community Christmas parade at 5:30 p.m.

Improv Murder Mystery
Get unscripted with the Modesto Junior College theater department and its presentation of an “Improv Murder Mystery.” The production, directed by Lynette Borrelli-Glidewell, features an improvised show based on audience suggestions and the actors’ quick wits. The mystery’s 12-actor cast is Ethan Hennes, Marilyn Diaz, Stefani Potter, Nick Salvucci, Rickey Soto, Cheyenne Kealthley, Shelby Keathley, Patrick Norris, Shane Oliver, Josh Palafox, Cecelia Rodriguez and John Smith.

Turlock Festival of Lights
Central Valley cities across the region kick off their community holiday celebrations starting with the Turlock Festival of lights Friday. The annual event along Main Street includes craft and food vendors, seasonal entertainment, children’s activities and a visit from Santa. It culminates with the lighting of the community Christmas tree starting at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday a number of surrounding communities also will celebrate with their annual Christmas events. Gustine hosts its Downtown Christmas, Riverbank celebrates with its Christmas Parade and Festival, Hughson holds its Christmas Festival and Angels Camp runs its Lights Christmas Parade.
