Season’s ‘Greetings’ through Dec. 21 at Sonora’s Stage 3
Ring in the season with Stage 3 Theatre’s production of “Greetings.”
The comedy centers around a son who brings his Jewish atheist fiancée to meet his Catholic family for the holiday. The play by Tom Dudzick opens Friday and runs through Dec. 21.
The production marks the Stage 3 directorial debut of Jay Newington, who has assembled a cast of Stage 3 veterans for the show. Anthony DeGregorio (who appeared in “Becky’s New Car” earlier this season) plays eldest son Andy, who is bringing his girlfriend, Randi (Kaitlyn Brennan from “Brighton Beach Memoirs”), home for the holidays. There we meet family patriarch Phil (Mike Moon from “The Game’s Afoot”) and matriarch Emily (Sherry Dumos from “Good People”).
The family also has a developmentally disabled younger sister, Mickey (Susanah Holland from “Park Your Car in Harvard Yard”).
Randi’s appearance in the traditional household causes a stir, especially when the verbally limited Mickey adds another word to her vocabulary upon her arrival: “Greetings!”
“Underneath the garlands and twinkle lights, the show’s core is an exploration of spirituality. I’m delighted at the way the play takes us through this journey – even the most devout or cynical audiences will take away some food for thought and introspection,” Newington said.
While this is Newington’s Stage 3 directorial debut, he has acted across the region. As the owner of a San Diego design company, Scene One, he also designed all the sets for “Greetings.”
