Sunday Afternoons at CBS
The Sunday Afternoons at CBS concert series opens its 24th season with The Marc Atkinson Trio. The show will feature Juno-nominated Canadian artist Atkinson performing with his gypsy jazz trio. The group has toured North America and Europe and played the Montreal Jazz Festival and DjangoFest Northwest, among other events.

Ramón Ayala
Accordion king Ramón Ayala returns to the Gallo Center for the Arts after a sold-out show last season. The Grammy-winning Mexican superstar has had a career that has spanned more than 50 years. The icon of norteño music will have his longtime band Sus Bravos del Norte and son, Ramón Ayala Jr., with him for the Modesto concert.

Coulterville CoyoteFest
Have a howling good time at the third annual CoyoteFest in Coulterville this weekend. The event includes the 30th annual coyote howl contest as well as a parade, car show, live music, vendor booths, petting zoo, kids corner and more. Performers include the bands Coyote Hill and Kick Start.

Home improvement show
The Modesto Home Improvement Show offers area residents an expo for all their domestic aspirations. It will showcase a wide variety of vendors selling products to help beautify homes and yards. The event also will include Food Truck Wars, featuring local purveyors and children’s activities by Macaroni Kids.

Gary Soto
Award-winning poet and author Gary Soto brings his musical “In and Out of the Shadows” to a Modesto City Schools event. The free production about a group of undocumented teenagers will be presented by the San Francisco Youth Theatre and include an appearance by Soto. The Ballet Folklorico Los Falcones will also perform.

Black Irish Band
Foothill favorites the Black Irish Band returns to the region to perform in Newman. For more than 25 years the group has brought the traditional folk music of Ireland, Scotland, Italy and the United States with Gold Rush flair. The band’s repertoire includes maritime music, railroad songs, western ballads and more.
