Picnic at the Pops
The Modesto Symphony Orchestra’s 21st annual Picnic at the Pops brings back former music director Michael Krajewski. The outdoor concert on the E.&J. Gallo Winery grounds will feature vocalists Rob Evan, Shem von Schroeck and Micah Wilshire. The program will include classic and current rock hits by The Doobie Brothers, Queen and Coldplay, among others.

Women of the West Film Festival
The new Women of the West Film Festival (WOW Fest, for short) opens at the State Theatre. The event will screen a feature film and show a lineup of award-winning shorts and other videos by and about women. San Diego-based artist Inocente Izucar, the subject of the Oscar-winning short documentary “Inocente,” will speak before a screening of her film.

MoPride 2015
The 10th annual MoPride, Modesto Pride in the Park, celebrates the area’s LGBT community. The family-friendly event will include vendor booths, arts and crafts, a beer garden, kids zone, live entertainment, games and more. The nonprofit MoPride Inc. is working to raise funds to open a new LGBT center in Stanislaus County.

Townsend Opera Remix
Townsend Opera continues its outreach efforts with a series of its Opera Remix shows in Central Valley communities this weekend. The concerts will feature a fusion of both classic rock and opera arias performed by sopranos Carrie Hennessey and Christine Capsuto, mezzo soprano Danielle Bond and tenors Gregory Pyatt and Christopher Bengochea.

Denair Farm and Family Festival
The Denair Farm and Family Festival returns with more than 100 food and craft vendors, live entertainment, classic-car show, antique farm equipment, petting zoo and more. The Denair Civic Association-sponsored event will include a 5K run to support Valley Children’s Hospital. A raffle raising money for scholarships for Denair High will have a car as its grand prize.

Assyrian Food Festival
Come hungry to the 18th annual Assyrian Food Festival in Ceres this weekend. The celebration, hosted by the Assyrian Cultural Center of Bet-Nahrain, includes an authentic dinner and tea house, cultural display, folk music, arts and crafts, traditional dancing and more. Other delicacies like homemade pastries will be available for takeout.
