Country music mainstay Marty Stuart brings his band the Fabulous Superlatives to a benefit show at the State Theatre. The event is a fundraiser for the Society for Disabilities. Stuart is a four-time Grammy Award winner, platinum recording artist and Grand Ole Opry star. Over the years, his music has gone from bluegrass to rockabilly, honky-tonk and traditional country music.

‘American Sniper’ author
Scott McEwen, co-author of the best-selling autobiography “American Sniper,” about the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, is returning to the Gallo Center for the Arts. His book has been turned into a film directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Bradley Cooper in the title role. It will open in theaters in December. McEwen, who spoke in Modesto last October, will discuss his recent books, “Eyes on Target” and “Target America,” and the upcoming movie.

Rebecca Pidgeon
Singer-songwriter and actress Rebecca Pidgeon will appear for a two-day special event at the Prospect Theater. Pidgeon’s 2012 album, “Slingshot,” was nominated for a Grammy Award as best nonclassical engineered album. She also has appeared in films, including several works directed by her husband, playwright and filmmaker David Mamet. The Modesto shows will be two distinct sets spanning her career.

Big Earl & The Cryin’ Shame
A hometown band has nothing to cry about as Big Earl & The Cryin’ Shame brings its music to a sold-out show at the Gallo Center for the Arts. The acoustic version of the group, Poorhouse Millionaires, won a contest to open for blues legend B.B. King at the performing arts center in February. Both fronted by “Big” Earl Matthews, the bands took home the best jazz/blues trophies at the 2009 and 2012 Modesto Area Music Association Awards.

Fashion Hounds
The Fashion Hounds fundraiser will help our four-footed friends through the Modesto-based Wags and Whiskers Rescue. The high-fashion event at Salon Salon will be emceed by David Halverson and Marie Gallo. The festivities will include wine, cocktails and appetizers while models showcase various fashions, along with adoptable pets. There also will be a silent auction for the no-kill shelter.

All Hallows Fantasy Faire
