A special group of performers will “Let It Go” on the Gallo Center stage in Modesto.
YES Company (Youth Entertainment Stage Company) will present its annual production, this summer taking on “Disney’s Frozen The Broadway Musical.”
The show runs July 23-26 at the downtown venue. It features students in grades seven through 12 in the YES program, guided by the Gallo Center’s arts education team, in partnership with the Stanislaus County Office of Education.
The story tells of princesses Anna and Elsa, who grow up sheltered in their castle. “When Elsa is crowned queen, the magical powers she’s desperately tried to conceal from her sister take control, and she flees into the mountains,” according to the Gallo Center website.
When a severe winter hits their home of Arendelle, Anna sets off on a journey to find Elsa, along with snowman Olaf, ice harvester Kristoff and his reindeer, Sven.
The production is based on Disney’s Academy Award-winning animated film "Frozen” and includes its beloved songs — chief among them “Let It Go” — and music written for the stage version.
YES Company is an audition-based youth theater company directed and designed by Modesto region theater professionals. A seven-week preparation process combines training with curriculum-based performing arts to help students develop their individual craft alongside their peers, according to the Gallo Center website.
“Through this ensemble work, students build community through trust, acceptance, and celebration of differences as they work toward a common goal,” the site says.
YES Company was founded in 1992 by the county’s office of education with artistic director Melanee Wyatt. The Gallo Center joined forces with the county to take over instruction in 2018 when Wyatt retired.
“Frozen” will be presented in the Mary Stuart Rogers Theater at the Gallo Center, 1000 I St., Modesto. Showtimes are 7 p.m. July 23-24, 2 p.m. July 25-26.
Tickets are $24-$54 through the center’s website, www.galloarts.org.
There is a post-show VIP option following the July 25-26 performances only — YES Company Behind the Curtain — for an additional $10. It includes a meet-and-greet with select cast members and a gift bag.
VIP tickets are available in advance by phone or walk-in only. Ticket holders will receive an email five days before the performance date with more details.
