Country Star ‘Almost Got Locked Up' After Being Mistaken for Someone Else: ‘I Was Freaking Out'
A man by the name of Jordan Davis may have found himself in some trouble, but it's not the country star. In fact, the singer, 38, recently revealed he was taken in for questioning after being mistaken for another man who shares the same name.
On Monday, June 29, Jordan Davis (the country star) uploaded a video of himself on Instagram, sharing the nerve-wracking story with some of his busmates.
"Dude, the two cops came up here, pulled me into the Border Patrol [station]," a casual-looking Davis, sporting a long-sleeved, cream Henley and eyeglasses, can be heard telling his buddies in the clip. "They're like, ‘I need you to be real serious with me, man. Are you in some trouble in Indiana?"
According to a Taste of Country report, Davis encountered U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers while returning to the United States after a weekend performance at The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
"I was freaking out," he admitted of the scary incident, explaining that he told the agents: "I've never even been arrested before."
Davis goes on to say, "They were serious for a second, dude….[The agent] was like, ‘You need to come with me. We're not gonna put you in handcuffs; just walk with me. That's when I was like, ‘Whoa!'... I just kinda got quiet because they were pretty serious. Somebody in Indiana named Jordan Davis is in trouble."
The "Next Thing You Know" singer's busmates shared their reactions to seeing the officers walk up during the moment, with one person behind the camera noting that he had no idea Davis was being detained and initially thought the Border Patrol agents were joking with the singer.
Another person inside the tour bus said he figured the officers were going to ask for a photo with the Louisiana native. And though the moment was quite shocking for Davis, the star shared that after a few minutes, officers finally realized who he was and asked: "Are you the country singer?"
"I was like, ‘Yeah,'" Davis shared of his response, adding, "‘He was like, ‘Oh dude. Now, you're gonna go back and bash us, huh?' I was like, ‘No. All good. Just let me get outta here."
"Bro, but the whole time I was in there, all these people were like coming in [and looking at me]. And I was like, damn... Almost got locked up, ‘cuz," Davis added. "I was freaking out. At first, I just thought like…it was like the second I walked off that bus, he got pretty serious."
