Bill Engvall couldn’t keep himself from making audiences laugh after what was supposed to have been his final tour. So he’s on the road again with his revival, and coming back to Modesto’s Gallo Center.

Modesto Performing Arts also is set to present “Fiddler on the Roof” there.

Juneteenth and Graffiti Summer events are planned throughout the region, making for a packed June 13-19 of entertainment and events.

Bill Engvall fans might recall his last visit four years ago to the Gallo Center, billed as his farewell tour. But things changed. The well-known comedian brings his “Here’s Your Sign, It Wasn’t My Time Tour” to the downtown Modesto venue. The Grammy-nominated, multiplatinum-selling comic was a member of Blue Collar Comedy specials and concert films.

Fiddler on the Roof

Modesto Performing Arts presents the classic musical “Fiddler on the Roof” at the Gallo Center. The Tony Award-winning production is based on the Yiddish stories of Sholom Aleichem about Tevye, whose daughters decide to marry without taking a matchmaker’s advice. Among its well-known songs are “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “If I were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Far From the Home I Love” and “Tradition.” It will be directed by Paul Tischer.

Modesto Juneteenth Celebration

The King-Kennedy Memorial Center Board of Directors will mark the Juneteenth holiday with a community festival. Expect live entertainment, vendors, family activities and more.

Allensworth journey

Silver Square Lodge #66/Creators Club of Modesto offers “A Journey Through History” train ride to Allensworth State Historic Park, California’s first all-Black town. The trip is organized to honor Slavery Remembrance Day.

Riverbank Juneteenth

“A Day of Family Fun: Juneteenth Celebrating Freedom” marks another community holiday event, this one in Riverbank. The day will feature activities for children, food, bands, DJs, vendors, gospel singers, cultural performances, educational exhibits, a Black business expo and community resource information.

Lathrop Juneteenth

The Lathrop Juneteenth Heritage Committee presents its annual event for the holiday. Planned are vendors, food, live music, spoken word, games for kids and more.

MoBand

“Innovation Nation” is the next theme for MoBand’s summer concert series. The show will feature the music of Santana, “The National Game March,” selections from the film “Up” and music celebrating space, “Where No Man Has Gone Before.” The audience is encouraged to “white out” Mancini Bowl by wearing white shirts.

Graffiti festival

The North Modesto Kiwanis American Graffiti Festival & Car Show is a two-day Graffiti Summer blowout. There will be live music, nearly 20 food vendors and more than 30 other vendors. Hundreds of classic cars will be on display and a kids zone (with a separate fee) will offer a train ride, multiple bounce houses and a water boat ride. On Sunday only, nonprofit Valley Dream Car joins the show.

“Grease”

Graffiti Summer continues with more fun, a “Grease” singalong at the State Theatre. Dress up as your favorite character from the 1978 film and dance in the aisles. Favorite songs include “You’re The One (That I Want),” “Summer Nights,” “Beauty School Dropout” and “Greased Lightning.”

Block party

The Carnegie Arts Center presents its annual block party in Turlock. The annual community event is for all ages. There will be creative activities, local art, live music and more.

Mike Hammar and the Nails

Red Tie Arts presents blues group Mike Hammar and the Nails, with David Dow and Friends opening. The event is a fundraiser for student music lessons and scholarships. The backyard concert includes a chicken dinner, with drinks available for a donation.
