Two movie theaters surpassed the rest among reader favorites in our recent Bee poll.

The winner was Modesto’s State Theatre, the only nonprofit among the five Stanislaus County options. It won with 44% of the vote in the informal poll.

Coming in second was Galaxy Theatres Riverbank at 38%. While not the top pick, Galaxy had the most positive comments on The Bee’s Facebook page link to the story.

“Galaxy theatre at Riverbank and no others choices hard to beat it,” posted one reader.

“I like galaxy only 1 that enforces the no phone rule during movies most annoying thing ever even texting keeps flashing lights and little pings,” posted another.

“The Galaxy in Riverbank hands down,” noted another.

A couple of comments mentioned both top selections in their Facebook comments:

“Hard to beat Galaxy in Riverbank. The State Theater/The Jewel features the coolest atmosphere and hands down the best popcorn though.”

“Galaxy riverbank is the only one worth visiting. State theater too except I only hear about their events the day of.”

The nonprofit did get its heralds, too: “For good vibes and classics, State Theater is always fun time.”

Rating third in the poll was Modesto Regal Theater with 13% of the votes, followed by a tie between Modesto’s Brenden and Turlock’s Regal theaters, each gaining 2% of the votes.
