The new Dos Rios Arts & Cultural District in Modesto has been awarded $10,000 for its selection as one of California’s 10 new state-designated cultural districts by the California Arts Council.
According to a press release from the Stanislaus Arts Council, the district also will receive official state certification, technical assistance and access to joint marketing and branding resources.
It joins nine other districts added to the cultural districts program in California for a total of 24 state districts, including the Downtown Merced Cultural District.
“A cultural district, as outlined by the program, is a well-defined geographic area with a high concentration of cultural resources and activities,” the release said.
Dos Rios is a newly designated district, created through a process with the state arts council over the past year, Stanislaus Arts Council Executive Director Dominique Johnson said in an email.
The district — overseen by the county arts council — is within downtown Modesto and adjacent neighborhoods, according to the release.
It includes the Gallo Center for the Arts, State Theatre, McHenry Mansion and McHenry Museum, Graceada Park/Mancini Bowl, other cultural venues, landmarks and more, Johnson said.
The designation period will run Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2030, the release said.
