The Modesto Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department brings back its family-friendly film series. The free community event kicks off with the feature “Earth to Echo.” The movies start at dusk Friday nights through Sept. 18. The rest of this year’s film lineup will be “The Lego Movie,” “Maleficent,” The Boxtrolls,” “Big Hero 6” and “Paddington.”

Los Tucanes de Tijuana
The high-energy Norteño band Los Tucanes de Tijuana brings its show to the Gallo Center for the Arts. The Latin Grammy-winning group has played across the U.S. and Mexico, including shows at Dodger Stadium, New York’s Central Park and Zocalo Plaza in Mexico City. The band has sold more than 13 million albums.

Asleep at the Wheel

Arnold festival

NY Film Critics Series
The State Theatre continues its NY Film Critics Series with an advance sneak peek of the murder-mystery “Digging for Fire,” starring Jake Johnson and Rosemarie DeWitt as a married couple who make an unexpected discovery. Fallen Heroes Car Show
The third annual Fallen Heroes Car Show pays tribute to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The event is hosted by the Mid Valley Stangs Car Club, and all makes and models are welcome. There will be speakers, posting of colors and tributes to fallen officers.
