The fifth annual Modstock Music Festival rocks out at Modesto’s Graceada Park. The free community event is presented by the Valley Music Institute and Roberts Auto Sales and will feature more than 30 local bands. The festivities also include booths for food, drink, arts and crafts, demonstrations and other family activities. Performers include student groups involved in the VMI summer session and more.

Glen Campbell documentary

Attend a special screening of the documentary “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me” to benefit the Modesto Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The film follows the country music legend on his farewell tour after announcing in 2011 that he had Alzheimer’s disease. The State Theatre show is presented by Steve and Tracy Barbieri in association with the Alzheimer’s Association.

Daniel Castro

Bay Area blues act the Daniel Castro Band returns to the region. Guitarist and vocalist Castro moved to the region in 1995 and started his band. Since then, it’s played prolifically in places like the Great American Music Hall and blues festivals across the West.

Live in the Cellar

Modesto Unplugged and ModestoView’s monthly Live In The Cellar concert series continues. Performing will be the Bay Area ensemble Vortex Tribe, which fuses world groove, acid jazz, funk and rock sounds. The band features flutist Deborah Yates and guitarist Jon Mulvey. Shows are in the cellar space at Greens Restaurant.

Turlock Criterium

Downtown Turlock welcomes its first TEA Solar Cycling Classic, known as the Turlock Criterium, on Saturday, Aug. 8. The event will feature a series of races in different men’s and women’s categories for USA cycling athletes, as well as a free kids race to start the day. The public is invited to watch the races all day.

Blue Monday Jam

The long-running Blue Monday Jam concert series brings in Modesto singer-songwriter Joe Barretta. The invitational jazz, R&B and blues shows are held the second Monday of every month. The house band includes guitarist Johnny Valdes, bassist Tim Allen, drummer Dave Hawkes, trombonist Jamie Dubberly, horn player Andrew Rosenblum and keyboardists Pat Governor and Eric Benson.
