Unique take on Disney’s ‘Fantasia’ animated films coming to Modesto’s Gallo Center

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra presents “Disney’s Fantasia in Concert” at the Gallo Center, where The Peking Acrobats also will perform. They are just two of the entertainment options for the Modesto region Feb. 1-7.

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra presents highlights from two of Disney’s animated features, “Fantasia” and its sequel, “Fantasia 2000,” at the Gallo Center. Scenes from each film will be projected on a large screen as the orchestra, conducted by Ryan Murray, performs classical selections. Limited tickets were available.

Classic Albums Live: Jimi Hendrix

The Gallo Center offers another production from the Classic Album Live lineup, “Jimi Hendrix’s Are You Experienced?” The show is a “note-for-note, cut-for-cut performance of one of the most influential albums of all time, by arguably the greatest guitarist of all time,” the center’s website says.

The Peking Acrobats

The Peking Acrobats perform their daring maneuvers at the Gallo Center. The group members “display their technical prowess at such arts as trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting and gymnastics. They push the limits of human ability, defying gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility and control,” the center’s website says.

Sankofa Theatre Company

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Sweat” comes to the Gallo Center, presented by the Sankofa Theatre Company. It’s a “collision of race, class and friendship at a pivotal moment in America,” the center’s website says. “A group of friends in a Rust Belt town have spent their lives sharing secrets and laughs on the factory floor. But when layoffs begin to chip away at their trust, they’re pitted against each other in a heart-wrenching fight.”

Gospel Jam

The United Black Student Unions of California present The UBSUC Gospel Jam fundraiser at the State Theatre. The concert “is a celebration of faith, unity, and the power of gospel music to bring people together for a cause that resonates deeply within our community,” the theater’s website says. This year’s concert raises funds to support educational scholarships for students from underserved backgrounds.

Valentine concert

Congregation Beth Shalom presents it annual Valentine Concert & Tea. This year’s Grace Lieberman and David Tillson Bradford Memorial show features Golden Bough performing “Love Songs and Beyond.” The presentation will be paired with an afternoon tea.

Chinese New Year

A Multi-Cultural Children’s Festival/ Chinese New Year Celebration will be held by the city of Modesto to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. The celebration welcomes the year of the snake. There will be cultural performances, Chinese calligraphy, music, demonstrations, activities and more.
