Popular traditional holiday music classic returning to Modesto’s Gallo Center. What, when

A local favorite returns for the yuletide season, the Modesto Symphony Orchestra’s “Holiday Pops!” concert. It’s just one of several holiday shows and events set for the region from Nov. 30-Dec. 6.

“Holiday Pops!”

Always a popular way to start the holidays, the Modesto Symphony Orchestra brings its “Holiday Pops” concert to the Gallo Center. This year, actress and soloist Nikki Renée Daniels joins the MSO and the MSO Chorus. Daniels currently is starring as Lady Larken in the Broadway revival of “Once Upon a Mattress.” Limited tickets were available.

“Home for the Holidays”

Peabo Bryson, Oleta Adams, Ruben Studdard and Haley Reinhart will perform their “Home for the Holidays” concert at the Gallo Center. The show stars two-time Grammy Award winner and two-time Academy Award winner Peabo Bryson; four-time Grammy Award nominee Oleta Adams; “American Idol” winner and Grammy Award nominee Ruben Studdard; and double-platinum recording artist Haley Reinhart. The show will feature holiday favorites plus selections from each artist’s biggest hits.

“Merry-Achi Christmas”

José Hernandez and his Mariachi Sol de México bring their “Merry-Achi Christmas” to the Gallo Center. A fifth-generation mariachi musician, Hernández has received 11 Grammy Award nominations for his work as producer and arranger for his two ensembles, Mariachi Sol de México and America’s first all-female mariachi, Reyna de Los Ángeles.

Pink Martini

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Pink Martini featuring China Forbes will return to the Gallo Center. The group’s festive holiday show features lead singer Forbes. Pink Martini includes a dozen musicians with songs in 25 languages. The show will include holiday songs and other fan favorites from the band’s 11 studio albums.

Irish Christmas in America

The Downtown Modesto Partnership has taken over the popular Mod Shop Small Business Saturday holiday extravaganza. The event features brick-and-mortar retailers, as well as makers and artisans who will sell goods such as organic soap, handcrafted jewelry, vintage clothing, holistic personal care, artwork and more. There will be live music from 2-4 p.m.

Christmas parade

The first regional holiday parade of the season, Turlock’s annual lighted parade, has been dubbed “A Neon Night” this year. The route will begin at the corner of Canal Drive and Main Street, run along Main Street, up Broadway and end at the Stanislaus County Fairground.
