Ice skating launches at rinks in Modesto, Turlock and Tuolumne. The details on holiday fun
Ice skating is returning to two rinks in Stanislaus County and another up in Tuolumne County.
Fields of Ice opened on the east edge of Turlock at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22. So did the rink at Long Barn Lodge, off Highway 108 about 20 miles east of Sonora.
Modesto on Ice will join the fun at 10 a.m. Nov. 23, on a parking lot next to Modesto Centre Plaza. It and the Turlock venue will run through the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday holiday, Jan. 20. Long Barn expects to go into mid-March.
All three venues offer public skating sessions, privates parties and lessons. Modesto and Turlock include skate rental in the entry fee. Long Barn has an extra $5 charge.
The operators make a point of starting the weekend before Thanksgiving. All three will be open on that holiday, as well as Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Prices and other details are on the websites for each rink. Other details:
- Modesto on Ice dates to 2015 and has been owned by the Halsey family since 2020. It is at 11th and K streets.
- Fields of Ice was launched by the Macedo family in 2014 and also sells Christmas trees. It is at 716 N. Daubenberger Road.
- Long Barn Lodge dates to the 1920s and also offers motel rooms and cabins. It is at 25957 Long Barn Road.
About 10 miles farther up Highway 108 is the Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort. It has not yet opened to skiers and snowboarders, but the storms in the forecast could change that.
