Band to swing into Modesto with its popular holiday show. See who, when, where

Get into the swing of the holidays with a show featuring Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Gallo Center. The venue also will host a sing-along screening of the Disney film “Encanto,” complete with a live band. These are just two of the entertainment options set in the Modesto region for Nov. 23-29.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s Wild & Swingin’ Holiday Party comes to the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto. The band has been performing its take on American swing and jazz music for 30 years. Songs will include “Jingle Bells,“ “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,“ “Winter Wonderland“ and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.“ The band also plays Chuck Berry’s “Run, Run Rudolph,“ Lou Rawls’ “Merry Christmas Baby“ and slows things down for Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas.“

“Encanto”

Disney Concert’s Encanto: The Sing-Along Film Concert offers “Encanto” lovers of all ages a chance to sing along with their favorite Grammy Award-winning songs performed by a live band while watching the full film. The concert at the Gallo Center will include all the music from the Academy Award-winning film, including “We Don’t Talk About Bruno“ and “Surface Pressure.“

Benefit for Patty Castillo Davis

“For Patty With Love: A Benefit Concert” will be held at the State Theatre to raise money for medical expenses for local musician Patty Castillo Davis. San Francisco and Modesto musicians will gather, including members of the Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra, The Vibes, Journey Revisited, Triple D, The Garden and Lizz Robinett.

Handel’s “Messiah”

The free, public-participation performance of G.F. Handel’s “Messiah” has become a Modesto tradition. It will return to Trinity United Presbyterian Church, where singers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate. The conductor will be John Carter.

Cowboy craft show

The Oakdale Cowboy Museum’s Cowboy Christmas Craft Show returns for a two-day run. The holiday event features western art, jewelry, apparel, food and entertainment. Cowboy Santa will be available for photos from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday only.
