Another Vegas mainstay and music icon coming to Modesto. Who and where to get tickets

The Gallo Center welcomes Las Vegas mainstay Wayne Newton for a show. Also playing at the center will be country music’s Terri Clark. These are just some of the events set for the region Oct. 19-25.

Music icon Wayne Newton brings his “Up Close & Personal” show from Las Vegas to the Gallo Center. Known as Mr. Las Vegas, Newton’s hits include “Danke Schoen.” “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast,” “Red Roses for a Blue Lady,” “At This Moment,” “The Letter,” “Summer Wind” and “Years.”

Country singer Terri Clark will bring her music to the Gallo Center. Clark is the only Canadian female member of the Grand Ole Opry, according to the center’s website, and has sold more than 5 million albums with 13 Top Ten singles “and a slew of awards and nominations.”

“1984”

Gallo Center Repertory Company presents a stage adaptation of the Orwell novel “1984.” The production “is true to the novel in which Orwell depicts with great power the horrors of man’s fate in a society where Big Brother is always watching — where everything that is not prohibited is compulsory,” the center’s website says.

Tamale fest

Grab all the tamales you can eat as the California Tamale Festival returns to the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. There will be a Tamale Alley, live music, cooking demonstrations, a car and motorcycle show, home and garden display, vendors, kids zone and more.

René Vaca

René Vaca, a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor, brings his comedy to the Turlock Community Theatre. He was one of the introducing comedians for the 2024 Netflix Is A Joke Festival and and hosts his own monthly show at The Hollywood Laugh Factory. He also won the 16th annual Stand Up NBC competition.

Halloween concerts

“Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics” will be performed at the First United Methodist Church in Modesto. The space will be illuminated by thousands of candles, according to a press release. The classical music shows feature songs from soundtracks including “The Addams Family,” “Beetlejuice,” “Ghostbusters,” “The Exorcist” and more. The show is for ages 8 and older; ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

“Strangers on a Train”

The Modesto Film Society presents the 1951 Alfred Hitchcock classic “Strangers on a Train” at the State Theatre. In the film, a psychopath tries to persuade a tennis star to prove that two strangers can get away with murder by each killing the other’s most hated person, according to the theater’s website.
