Jeremy Renner stars in ‘milestone’ Super Bowl ad a year after crash. Here’s what’s in it
The big game isn’t the only matchup during the Super Bowl. The many commercials in between plays also heavily vie for viewer attention.
This year, Modesto-born actor Jeremy Renner will star in one of those ads, along with his daughter, Ava.
Icing on the cake, Renner, 53, is a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers, who play against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Feb. 11 game.
According to People.com, Renner also did his own stunts for the commercial — no mean feat for the Beyer High graduate who spent the past year recovering from a near-fatal snowplow accident.
“The Oscar-nominated star caught up with People on the set of his upcoming Silk Super Bowl commercial, where he dances, leaps and roundhouse kicks his way through a very important task: making breakfast for his 10-year-old daughter, Ava,” the People.com story says.
“While filming the ‘Feel Planty Good’ spot on a sunny Saturday at a rented home in Los Angeles, Renner, clad in a cozy bathrobe, got to work in the kitchen, singing James Brown’s 1965 hit ‘I Got You (I Feel Good)‘ while whipping up a breakfast of champions for Ava,” the story continues.
Renner said the chance to do the stunts was a big step on his healing journey, according to the story.
“I still don’t believe it, that it’s even really transpired. There’s some sort of milestones that give me confidence, and this is probably another one of them,” he says in the People story. “I never would’ve tried or attempted any of these types of moves, or dancing around like James Brown on a countertop. I did everything, and it felt good and didn’t hurt too much the next day. I’m happy to have to be tested to try it, but to be honest, there’s a lot of hesitancy, and it’s baby steps for me in this deal.”
Doing a commercial for Silk was “a no brainer,” according to the story, because Renner used the plant-based milk brand to make protein shakes while recovering from his Jan. 1, 2023, snowplow accident.
According to a previous story in The Bee, Renner was with family on his property near Reno when he went to clear his nephew’s vehicle from the snow after a storm. He had gotten out of the snowplow, which began rolling. When Renner tried to get back in to stop it, he was pulled under one of its treads and crushed.
