The best bar, the best venue and the best talent in Modesto? See who won the votes
MAMA spread her love Tuesday night.
The Modesto Area Music Association handed out its annual MAMA awards in 16 categories at a ceremony at the State Theatre.
Categories included performers in a variety of musical genres, as well as comedy, events and venues.
The ceremony also featured live music.
Among those honored was Darin Morris of VMI Rocks, who received this year’s lifetime achievement award.
Aside from Morris, winners were selected by the public via online voting. More than 6,200 voted this year, including people from across the U.S. and other countries, according to an email from MAMA co-founder Chris Murphy.

Best Alternative Indie Rock: Spy vs Spi
Best Hard Rock/Metal Band: Beheading of the Queen
Best Country/Americana: Tiffany Rose & the Outlaw Hearts
Best Jazz & Blues: High Street Blues Band
Best Punk: Horizon Point
Best Singer-Songwriter: Mapuana
Best Youth Band: Last July
Best Blue Collar: FunkHaus
Best Latin Band: Wet Banditos
Best Urban/Hip Hop: Real One
Best Drag: Sasha Devaroe
Best Comedy: Serena Gamboa
Best Bar/Café/Restaurant: Dying Breed Brewery
Best Event: Porchfest
Best DJ: DJ Invisible
Best Venue: State Theatre
