Love country music? Four hit-makers will perform in Modesto region in separate shows

A pair of shows in the greater Modesto region features country music stars. Josh Turner will play at the Gallo Center for the Arts while three hit-making singers will play the Roots & Boots in the Mountains show in Angels Camp.

Locally bred comedian Marcella Arguello returns for a show at the State Theatre and a new play comes to the Denair stage. They’re just some of the entertainment set in the area for Aug. 12-19.

Country singer Josh Turner brings his Long Black Train 20th anniversary tour to the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto. His hits include “Long Black Train,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance” and “Your Man.” Limited tickets remained at press time.

Boots & Roots

Country stars Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw and Collin Raye head the Boots & Roots in the Mountains show at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. Oakdale-based band Blue Line will open. The event also features food and merchants.

Marcella Arguello

Modesto-raised comedian Marcella Arguello comes home for a performance at the State Theatre. The 2002 Johansen High graduate is a brash and blunt performer who’s first headlining TV comedy special premiered in February on HBO Max. She’ll be joined at the State with Lydia Popovich for the age 18-and-over show.

“Surfin’ Royalty”

The musical “Surfin’ Royalty” will be staged at the Denair Gaslight Theater. It’s the story of reigning royalty Diego and Larisa, who are ready to take their crowns again. Meanwhile, another character is trying to save the Surf Shack.
