What 2 popular food festivals return to fill you up in Modesto? Those, more entertainment

Food is on the menu at an upcoming pair of festivals: Cafe Shalom and the Modesto Taco Festival. They are just two of the entertainment options planned April 29-May 5 in the region.

Cafe Shalom

Traditional Jewish food, entertainment, tours and more mark the return of Cafe Shalom, presented by Congregation Beth Shalom in Modesto. The event celebrates Israel’s 75th anniversary this year. Also available will be a gift shop along with a bake shop.

WHEN: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 30

TICKETS: $20 in advance, $25 at the door, $10 ages 4-10, free age 3 and under

Taco fest

Get your fill as more than 30 taco vendors take part in the Modesto Taco Festival. Also planned for the day-into-evening event in downtown are Chihuahua races, ballet folklorico, luchadors, drinks, live music and more.

Tales of Poe

Gallo Center Repertory Company presents the “Tales of Edgar Allan Poe.” Five stories from the author will be brought to life through projections, shadow work and music. Among the the stories and poems will be “The Tell Tale Heart,” “The Fall of The House of Usher,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Imp of the Perverse” and “The Black Cat.”

Turlock garden tour

The Turlock Garden Club presents its Spring Garden Tour. Patrons can stroll through the landscapes of six homes that make up the tour: 1243 Shady Lane, 2504 Augusta Place, 2505 Stone Meadow Road, 2605 Sebastian Drive, 2600 Sebastian Drive and 2018 Brier Road.
