In this still from a promo clip, actor Jeremy Renner appears on ‘The Diane Sawyer Interview,’ airing Thursday, April 6, 2023.

A promo he posted on Instagram for his interview Thursday with Diane Sawyer shows Jeremy Renner choking up as he recalls the horrific snowplow accident that began his year.

But the actor’s captioning of the post again shows the sense of humor he’s kept throughout his recovery.

“It has taken the immediate actions of so many people that has kept me here alive,” the Modesto native probably best known for playing the Marvel hero Hawkeye wrote. “Thank you will never be enough to express my gratitude… so I can offer up some ‘Free Snowcat Rides’ up at the house if you’re interested??”

And fellow actor Ryan Reynolds, who before has met Renner’s humor with his own, commented: “I would take a snowcat ride. I’m not even kidding. But it has to be in the middle of summer. And only you inside the snowcat while I watch from a safe distance from your well appointed living room.”

Clearly, Reynolds realizes he’s not nearly indestructible like the character Deadpool he plays.

Renner was with family on his property off Mount Rose Highway near Reno on the Nevada side of the Tahoe Basin when the accident occurred. New Year’s Day morning, he went to clear his nephew’s vehicle from the snow after a storm hit, Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said in a January news conference.

Renner had used his 14,300-plus-pound heavy-duty snow-removal plow to tow the vehicle free., Balaam said. Afterward, the snowplow began rolling. When Renner tried to get back in to stop it, he was pulled under one of its treads and crushed. The accident broke more than 30 bones and punctured a lung.

The 52-year-old actor was airlifted to a Reno hospital, where he remained in the intensive care unit for more than a week. Renner kept fans updated on his condition through social media, particularly his Instagram account.

“The Diane Sawyer Interview” featuring Renner will air at 10 p.m. Thursday on ABC and will be available the next day on Hulu.
