Love ‘Lucy’? Modesto gets comedic look behind iconic TV show. More area entertainment
Music and comedy are on the slate for the Modesto region. A production based on a behind-the-scenes look at iconic TV show “I Love Lucy” comes to the Gallo Center, along with a touring group from the Monterey Jazz Festival. They’re just two of the entertainment options planned from Jan. 21-27.
“Lucy Loves Desi”
A comedic and true story behind one of America’s most beloved TV comedies, “I Love Lucy,” comes to the Gallo Center with the production “Lucy Loves Desi.” Playwright Gregg Oppenheimer — son of “I Love Lucy” creator Jess Oppenheimer — wrote the tale of battles Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz faced with CBS over the ideas for their TV show.

Monterey Jazz Festival
The Monterey Jazz Festival celebrates its 65th year with a tour headed for the Gallo Center. Featuring Tony and Grammy Award-winning vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, Grammy Award-winning vocalist Kurt Elling and saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, the band will be directed by pianist Christian Sands and anchored by his rhythm section.

Bowie musical revue
“The Men Who Fell to Earth” is a theatrical David Bowie musical coming to the State Theatre. With the nature of Bowie’s music rooted in storytelling and metaphor, costume and movement, aspects of these are included in the show. A slide/film/art presentation, accompanies the performance.

Robert Cray
