The holiday season gets into full swing, with plenty of Christmas music and events making up the Modesto region’s entertainment. Here’s a look at some of the top options planned for Nov. 26-Dec. 2.

Lonestar

Country group Lonestar brings its “Christmas and Hits” show to the Gallo Center. The program will mix holiday favorites with the band’s hits as reimagined and rerecorded for its upcoming “Ten to 1” album.

“Holiday Pops!”

Broadway actress Nikki Renée Daniels joins the Modesto Symphony Orchestra and its chorus for an annual holiday show at the Gallo Center, “Holiday Pops!” The performance will include many holiday favorites.

A Carpenters Christmas

Merry-achi

Mariachi Sol de Mexico performs a holiday celebration at the Gallo Center with “A Merry-achi Christmas.” The group offers a fusion of the traditional holiday spirit with Mexican and American Christmas songs and carols.

Steve Vai

Guitarist, composer and producer Steve Vai brings his music to the Turlock Community Theatre. At age 12, Vai started taking guitar lessons from Joe Satriani. At 18, he began his professional music career with Frank Zappa. He’s earned three Grammy Awards.

Sara Evans

Sara Evans’ “Go Tell It on the Mountain” holiday tour is set to arrive at the Turlock Community Theatre. The concert will feature traditional Christmas songs as well as her country music hits.

Paula Poundstone

Comedian Paula Poundstone, known for her observational humor, brings her show to the State Theatre. She can be heard weekly as the host of the comedy podcast “Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone” and as a regular panelist on NPR’s comedy news quiz, “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!”

Mod Shop

Vendors set up at participating downtown Modesto businesses for the Mod Shop Handmade Market. Shoppers also can enjoy live street entertainment. Locations include VMI School of Rock, Dragonfly Art for Life, City Center Courtyard, Tresseti’s Wine Room, Mistlin Gallery and Greens on Tenth.

Christmas fair

Formerly known as the Dickens Faire, the McHenry Mansion Christmas Faire features vendors offering an assortment of Christmas items, jewelry, food, crafts and more outside the mansion. There will be musical entertainment and activities for children. Horse-drawn wagon rides will be offered for $6.

Music of Sinatra

Local artists Matt Henderson, Ann Kline and David & David Halvorson perform Frank Sinatra hits at a show at the State Theatre. They’ll return to the era of The Rat Pack with classic Christmas and crooner tunes.
