The Gallo Center for the Arts has added two shows to its new 2015-16 season.

The rock group 3 Doors Down will play Aug. 30 and Christian comedian Tim Hawkins will play May 31.

3 Doors Down is known for hits like “Kryptonite,” “When I’m Gone” and “Here Without You.” Tickets are $39-$79 and are on sale Friday, July 10.

Comic Hawkins gained fame thanks to his YouTube and online posts and is known for his family-friendly, faith-based material. Tickets are $29-$79 (latter includes a meet-and-greet) and will go on sale July 17. Call 209-338-2100 or visit www.galloarts.org.

Funstrummers workshop

The Modesto ukelele club Funstrummers will host a workshop for the instrument July 17.

Los Angeles-based musicians Cali Rose and Craig Brandau will teach songs and styles during the event. The workshop is open to players of all experience levels.

The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Church of the Brethren. The fee is $20. Participants can bring a dish to share for a potluck to follow the workshop. Call 209-505-3216 or visit www.funstrummers.com.

Summer Splash Art Show

The Central California Art Association presents the Summer Splash show opening this week at the downtown Modesto’s Mistlin Gallery.

The CCAA member art show will feature two- and three-dimensional pieces. The show will run through Aug. 14 with a public reception as part of the Third Thursday Art Walk on July16.

The gallery is open 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. For more call 209-529-3369 or visit www.ccartassn.org.

Mother Lode Art Show

The Mother Lode Art Association presents its 63rd annual art show and exhibit this weekend as part of the Mother Lode Fair.

The judged fine art show will display works in all mediums. There also will be plein air painting by MLAA artists throughout the grounds.

The public reception will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 10. The show will be open through the fair, Friday-Sunday, July 10-12.

Bocce fundraiser

The Murphys Community Club holds “A Summer Evening Dinner & Dance under the Stars” fundraiser this weekend to raise funds for new bocce courts.

The event will include a no-host bar, gourmet buffet dinner by Wren Catering and dancing to a variety of music from DJ Kim Evans.

The new bocce courts opened in May. The benefit is raising funds to add a shade structure, picnic tables and landscaping around the courts.

Event starts at 6 p.m. at the The Garden in Murphys. Tickets are $75 per person. Call 209-728-8183.

Primus at Modesto Center Plaza

The progressive rock group Primus will play the Modesto Centre Plaza on Sept. 1.

JMax Productions is bringing in the band, known for its hits like “My Name is Mud” and “Mr. Krinkle,” which is touring behind its new album, “Primus and the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble.” Released last fall, the record is a tribute to the 1971 musical film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”
