Lyle Lovett brings along John Hiatt for a show at Turlock Community Theatre. The Gallo Center for the Arts hosts Lila Downs and Engelbert Humperdinck. The performers make up just part of the top entertainment planned in the Modesto region from Nov. 5-11.

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt join for a concert at Turlock Community Theatre. A singer, composer and actor, Lovett couples his storytelling with elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and the blues.

Satirical storyteller Hiatt’s songs are filled with tales of redemption and relationships. His music been recorded by Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and other hit makers.

Lila Downs

Winner of six Latin Grammy Awards and one Grammy Award, Lila Downs brings her music to the Gallo Center in Modesto. A human rights activist, her lyrics often focus on social injustice and Latin American stories of women of indigenous and working-class origins. Downs also touches on folk, jazz and hip-hop.

Engelbert Humperdinck

In a career spanning more than 50 years, Engelbert Humperdinck is known for romantic ballads, movie theme songs, disco and pop. His show, coming to the Gallo Center, includes not only his music but his self-deprecating humor.

Modesto Symphony

Conductor Nicholas Hersh will lead the Modesto Symphony Orchestra for a Rachmaninoff & Sibelius concert at the Gallo Center. The program is an opportunity to hear Hersh’s arrangement of the second movement of Schubert’s string quartet “Death and the Maiden.” Pianist George Li will be featured on Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.” The program finishes with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5.

Patsy Cline tribute

Modesto Performing Arts presents a tribute to the music of Patsy Cline, starring Joni Morris, accompanied by David Bean. Morris will perform hits from the late 1950s and ’60s, including “Crazy,” “Sweet Dreams” and “I Fall to Pieces.” Bean provides accompaniment on keyboards during the show at the State Theatre.

Forejour

A tribute to Foreigner and Journey, Forejour performs a multimedia show that promises to transport audiences back to the heyday of MTV, performing live to videos on screen. Local KRVR radio DJ and stand-up comedian Roman Guzman opens the show at the State Theatre.
