A documentary on how music can affect Alzheimer’s patients and other dementia-related illnesses will be screened Wednesday at the State Theatre in Modesto.

The film will be preceded by a panel discussion. The event is presented by the Alzheimer/Dementia Support Center of Modesto.

“Alive Inside” will be shown Sept. 21 at the theater. The documentary shows people and their reaction to music after they had lost their ability to interact with family or friends. They were patients in a study about music and dementia.

The discussion will feature Dr. Kathy Rasmussen, a clinical psychologist who works with the VA offices in Modesto; Michelle Donaldson, with SEVA Hospice; Nick Gaither, administrator of Valley Comfort and The Grove in Modesto; and Bob Miners, a caregiver of an Alzheimer’s patient, according to an email from the Alzheimer/Dementia Support Center.

The discussion starts at 6 p.m. with the film screening at 7 p.m. at the State Theatre, 1307 J St., Modesto. Tickets are $5 and available at thestate.org.
