Laughs at the State Theatre, more Modesto region entertainment planned
Comedy at the State Theatre as well as a cocktails and conversation event on Stanislaus County gold are among the entertainment options in the greater Modesto region from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2.
Comedy show
The State Theatre will feature a pair of comedy shows by Ramina Odicho, an Assyrian-American writer and comic. Branding herself as Ramina Rated, she examines pop culture within the Assyrian and greater Middle Eastern communities. The show is hosted by the Assyrian Aid Society.

Stanislaus gold
A Culture, Conversations and Cocktails event at the State Theatre will explore “The Gold of Stanislaus.” Lloyd G. Ploutz will cover the original development of Stanislaus County gold discoveries, original mining camps and ghost towns.

Big Bang Beat
The San Francisco-based revue Big Bang Beat performs favorite hit songs from the 1960s to the 1990s. The show is the final concert in this year’s summer Red Tie Arts Series. An optional dinner, wine tasting and dessert is available.

“Sh-Boom!”
This marks the last chance to catch Sierra Repertory Theatre’s musical “Sh-Boom! Life Could Be a Dream.” It’s the story of Denny and the Dreamers, a doo-wop group preparing to enter a radio contest and make it into the big time. The 1960 hits include “Fools Fall in Love,” “Tears on my Pillow,” “Runaround Sue,” “Earth Angel,” “Stay,” “Unchained Melody,” “Lonely Teardrops” and “The Glory of Love.”
