One man acts out three ‘Star Wars’ films. Funny stuff coming to a Modesto stage

One man condenses three “Star Wars” films into one comedic show at the Gallo Center in Modesto. Dance, music, theater, a garden tour and a festival also highlight the entertainment and event options for April 30 to May 6. Here’s a look at just some of what’s planned.

“Star Wars” condensed

The “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” lands at the Gallo Center. Charles Ross plays all the characters with voice impressions, singing, fighting and flying the ships to condense the plot of three films into his comedic show. Only limited seats remained at press time.

Dance and illusion

A company of dancer-illusionists, MOMIX presents its latest work, “Alice,” at the Gallo Center. The show features characters from the White Rabbit to the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts in dance with special effects.

“On Golden Pond”

Gallo Center Repertory Company presents the classic “On Golden Pond.” It tells the story of an aging couple visited by their daughter and explores the turbulent relationship she shared with her father growing up.

Modesto Symphony

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra brings guest conductor Paul Haas to its Wijeratne’s Concerto program at the Gallo Center. The concert will open with Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, then the orchestra will feature tabla master Sandeep Das on Wijeratne’s Concerto for Tabla. The program will conclude with Symphony No. 4 by Tchaikovsky.

“La Bohème”

Opera Modesto presents the classic “La Bohème” at the Gallo Center. Set in Paris, aspiring artists reach for their dreams, but their youthful optimism has to come to grips with the harsh realities of life and survival.

Garden tour

Visit five homes during this year’’s Turlock Garden Tour. “The Gardens for Everyone” tour also features a community garden. Tickets are available at The Greenery Nursery in Turlock, Westurf Nursery in Modesto, Morris Nursery in Riverbank and Stepping Stone Nursery in Atwater.

Fruit and nut fest

The Hughson Fruit & Nut Festival returns with two days of vendors, crafts and live entertainment. There will be a truck show April 30 and a classic car show May 1.
