Robert Cray coming to Modesto’s State Theatre, Punjabi singer at Gallo Center

Robert Cray brings his blues to the State Theatre, while Punjabi singer Satinder Sartaaj heads to the Gallo Center. Easter egg hunts and a new production from Sierra Repertory Theatre round out some of the things to get out and do from April 16-22.

American roots, blues, soul and R&B performer Robert Cray comes to the State Theatre, along with his band. Cray has five Grammy awards and has recorded numerous albums. He’s a member of the Blues Hall of Fame.

Satinder Sartaaj

Singer Satinder Sartaaj is set to perform at the Gallo Center. He’s most recognized for his Punjabi music and recently made his acting debut in the film “The Black Prince.” The Punjab native has performed songs worldwide that date back a decade.

“Steel Magnolias”

Sierra Repertory Theatre opens its 43rd season with “Steel Magnolias,” the story of six Southern women who take care of one another through good times and bad. The tale was made famous by the 1987 movie with an all-star cast.

Farmers market egg hunt

The Modesto Certified Farmers Market holds an Easter celebration featuring egg hunts for children and live music. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures. Hunts will be held at different times for different age groups.

WHEN: April 16. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; hunts begin at 9:20 a.m.

WHERE: 16th Street between H and I streets

Easter egg drop

A hot air balloon is planned to drop more than 14,000 eggs onto the property at Shelter Cove Community Church for kids to gather. Children must attend a prior church service to get free wristbands to join the egg hunts.

WHEN: April 16-17. Hunts are Saturday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Services are Saturday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Sunday at 8:15 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.

Victorian Easter

Victorian dress is encouraged for the Victorian Easter Celebration in Columbia State Historic Park. Thaddeus E. Hare, Columbia’s Easter Bunny, will hand out goodies to kids. A parade begins at 12:30 p.m. Awards will be given for fanciest Victorian hat, best-dressed couple, lasses and lads and more.

WHEN: April 17. Egg hunts begin at noon, held by age group
