Pop hit makers ready to pull into Modesto along with puppetry — sitcom style

Michael Bolton and Styx bring their hits to the Gallo Center, along with a sitcom-turned puppet show. There’s also a chance to celebrate love with a Valentine concert and tea in the Modesto region from April 2-8. Here’s a look at just some of what’s planned.

Carole King musical

Coming to the Gallo Center, “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” tells the true story of King’s rise to stardom, from being part of a songwriting team with husband Gerry Goffin, to becoming a successful solo act. Songs performed include “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend” and the title track.

Comedy in Turlock

Comedian Anjelah Johnson-Reyes brings her show to the Turlock Community Theatre. She became an internet sensation with her viral video “Nail Salon,” which led to stand-up, television and film appearances. She also was a series regular on “MADtv.”

“Golden Girls”

The comedic “That Golden Girls Show” comes to the Gallo Center in Modesto. The production parodies classic moments from “The Golden Girls” television series and its characters Sofia, Rose, Blanche and Dorothy, but with a twist — puppets.

Michael Bolton

Grammy Award-winning singer Michael Bolton returns to the Gallo Center. He’ll bring his hits including “When a Man Loves a Woman” and “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” along with pop, rock, soul and standards. Only limited tickets were available at press time.

Styx

Classic rock band Styx pulls into the Gallo Center. The six-member group brings its many hits to the concert, including “The Grand Illusion,” “Blue Collar Man,” “Too Much Time on My Hands,” “Lady,” “Crystal Ball,” Come Sail Away” and more. Only limited tickets were available at press time.

“Ramblin’ Rose”

Sierra Repertory Theatre’s latest tribute production “Ramblin’ Rose” celebrates female icons and songwriters of country music. Hear the classics of Dolly Parton, the Carter Family, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and more. The show stars Allison Kelly, Kendra Jo Brook, Maggie Hollinbeck, Morgan Morse and Josh Certo.

Valentine concert, tea

The next Sunday Afternoons at CBS program features a Valentine concert and tea. Liisa Davila will perform the “Give Yourself to Love” show featuring Broadway songs, jazz standards, guitar serenades and opera selections from “Carmen” and “La Boheme.” An afternoon tea will accompany the cabaret-style concert with scones, tea sandwiches, pastries and chocolates.
