Comedy, music and more can be enjoyed in the coming days at entertainment venues in Modesto. You also can catch the live Academy Awards telecast on the big screen at a Red Carpet Party at the State Theatre. Here’s a look at some of what’s planned March 26 through April 1.

Piff the Magic Dragon

The comedian returns to the Gallo Center in Modesto. Piff the Magic Dragon mixes wizardry, wit and sarcasm, joined by his sidekick Chihuahua, Mr. Piffles. The duo performs sold-out shows at a residency at the Flamingo Casino in Las Vegas. Limited seats were available at press time.

“Dancing with the Stars Live!”

Dancers from the television series hit the Gallo Center stage with a new show. Starring in the tour are Brandon Armstrong, Alan Bersten, Artem Chigvintsev, Sasha Farber, Daniella Karagach, Pasha Pashkov, Gleb Savchenko, Emma Slater, Britt Stewart and more. Limited seats were available at press time.

Modesto Symphony

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra’s next performances at the Gallo Center feature Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, performed by pianist Marika Bournaki. Dirk Meyer guest conducts the program that also includes Golijov’s “Sidereus” and Brahms’ First Symphony.

Bob Zany

Comedian Bob Zany is set to offer his humor at the State Theatre in Modesto. Having performed across the country and world, he brings years of comedy experience. He appeared on the Bob & Tom Show with his Zany Report and has appeared on numerous national TV shows.

Red Carpet Party

The State Theatre offers its annual live telecast on the big screen of the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday. Dubbed a “swanky affair” on the venue’s website, the event also features a catered pasta dinner by Mr. & Mrs. Delicioso.

Beatles favorites

The State Theatre presents a benefit concert for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates of Children) with an evening of Beatles music. The show features bands The Vibes and Third Party, along with other performers.

Quilt show

The Mistlin Gallery in downtown Modesto presents “Art Quilts 2,” a showcase of contemporary art quilts by Studio Art Quilt Associates. The exhibit includes diverse styles, techniques, sizes and subject matter, both realistic and abstract. Tiny quilts by locals from Country Crossroads Quilters also will be for sale.
