Camellia Show returns to Modesto, but not at its traditional home; more to do in region

Celebrate the season by viewing the many blooms on display at the Camellia Society of Modesto’s annual show. Other entertainment options in the region for the week of March 19-25 include Central West Ballet’s latest production, Melissa Etheridge at the Gallo Center and a play from Prospect Theater Project.

Camellia Show

Award-winning blooms will be on public display at the Camellia Society of Modesto’s annual show. Camellia plants also will be available for sale during the judged American Camellia Society-sanctioned event. Held in the past at the E.&J. Gallo Winery, this year’s venue has been changed to the Masonic Center.

“Creations”

Visitors at a museum become the paintings they view in the latest production from Central West Ballet. “Pictures at an Exhibition” is part of the Modesto company’s “Creations, Choreography in America” at the Gallo Center. Two other ballets are set to be performed during the program: “Love Duets” and “L’Arlésienne.”

Ballet Folklórico

Ballet Folklórico de Mexico brings its choreography to the Gallo Center. The company brings together the music, dance and costumes of Mexican folklore from pre-Colombian civilizations through the modern era. Only limited seats remained available at press time.

Melissa Etheridge

Hit-making singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge comes to the Gallo Center. Known for songs such as “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window,” Etheridge has been performing for more than three decades. Only limited seats remained available at press time.

“Aristocrats”

Prospect Theater Project presents the story of a family of fallen Irish aristocracy. As the O’Donnells gather at their crumbling estate for a wedding, the adult siblings sort out the truth about the family’s past, present and future.

Irish celebration

The historic Gold Rush town of Murphys honors its Celtic heritage during Murphys Irish Day. There will be live entertainment, vendors, food, drink and more. A parade begins at 11 a.m.
