Modesto’s State Theatre is back showing drive-in movies, including one screening that will be a fundraiser for Haven Women’s Center.

That fundraiser, Walk a Mile Re-Imagined 2020, is replacing Haven’s Walk A Mile in Her Shoes event, when men annually don red heels and walk to raise money for the nonprofit that helps victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and human trafficking.

That event was canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead, the State will show the film “The Wizard of Oz” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, at John Thurman Field to benefit Haven. Tickets are $75 per car and must be purchased in advance.

There’s also a video contest for Haven, #ClickHeels4Haven. For more see www.havenwalkamile.org.

The nonprofit State also has a slate of its own drive-in films planned.

There will be two movies shown on each night. Here’s a look at the upcoming screenings:

Oct. 10: “Despicable Me,” 6:30 p.m.; “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” 9:30 p.m.

Oct. 17: “The Goonies,” 6:30 p.m.; “42,” 9:30 p.m.

Oct. 24: “Shrek,” 6:30 p.m.; “Beetlejuice,” 9:30 p.m.

Oct. 30: “Casper,” 6:30 p.m.; “Hereditary,” 9:30 p.m.

Nov. 7: “Trolls,” 6:30 p.m.; “The Breakfast Club,” 9:30 p.m.

All the films will be shown at John Thurman Field’s west parking lot, 601 Neece Drive, Modesto. Tickets to each film are $30 per car.

Text-to-order concessions will be available; no alcohol is permitted. All tickets must be purchased in advance. Patrons must stay in their cars.
