The Modesto Symphony Orchestra will present its first virtual recital in what’s planned as a monthly event.

The Wednesday, July 22, program will feature MSO pianist John Hillebrandt, hosted by Associate Conductor Ryan Murray, according to a press release from the symphony.

The live performance at 7 p.m. will feature works by Ravel and Chopin and will end with one of Hillebrandt’s compositions, Nocturne.

MSO plans to hold a virtual event each month “while they remain offstage due to the current pandemic,” the press release said. Wednesday’s recital will be shown live on the symphony’s YouTube channel.

The virtual events will be free.

“We certainly miss performing, but most of all we miss connecting with our community,” Caroline Nickel, President and CEO of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra said in the release. “We’re making our virtual events free to all as a way to make classical music more accessible to the community. This is a hard time for everyone and we want to help by creating a digital space where we can gather, reconnect, and enjoy music.”

The program will include: Ravel: Jeux d’eau (Fountains); Chopin: Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 52; Hillebrandt: Nocturne.

A recording of the virtual recital will be available following the performance. To find the recital go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi-4Jqxg-0s.
