Turlock’s Carnegie Arts Center exhibit focuses on ‘Farms & Fields’
A juried gallery exhibit that annually runs at the same time as the Stanislaus County Fair will go virtual instead this year.
“Farms & Fields” has been moved online by Turlock’s Carnegie Arts Center due the coronavirus pandemic that not only closed the arts center, but also forced cancellation of this year’s county fair.
“Typically, the exhibition is scheduled to coincide with the Stanislaus County Fair, but like most things this summer, plans have changed,” Lisa McDermott, the Carnegie’s director, said in a press release. “Due to continued public health restrictions on business operations, plans for displaying the 46 selected works have shifted the show onto the Carnegie’s website instead of its physical galleries.”
The exhibit is scheduled to begin online June 3 and will remain on the Carnegie’s website indefinitely, according to the release. This will be the third show to go online this year while the venue’s galleries have been closed, with more than 300 visitors viewing the first online exhibit since it opened in April.
“Farms & Fields” celebrates the variety and importance of agriculture in the Central Valley, according to the release. There will be 46 selected works shown on the Carnegie’s website.
Orchards, fields, crops, livestock, people, canals, buildings, machinery are among the imagery inspired by agriculture. Artists from Northern and Central California submitted their works; those in the exhibition were chosen by McDermott and Turlock artist John Karl Claes, the release said. Included are works in painting, drawing, pastel, photography, mixed media and more.
“The artists are a little disappointed that the work can’t be seen in person, but we’ll make every effort to present the show in an engaging way.” McDermott said in the release, “We’ll even have a ‘for sale’ option so website visitors can purchase works from the show. Beautiful interpretations of our Valley’s agricultural richness are always a favorite among our patrons.”
