Turlock Concert Association cancels season; decides to fold permanently

After 80 years, the Turlock Concert Association has called it quits.

The nonprofit group has presented live entertainment to Turlock and free music education programs in local schools since 1940, according to a press release.

“Now in the midst of our 80th season, the TCA Board has made the very sad decision that the Turlock Concert Association needs to end operations,” said the release sent by former TCA President Eric Julien. “We will dissolve the association as we anticipate a number of subscribers will no longer wish to congregate for quite some time and we won’t retain enough subscribers to continue to operate.”

The Turlock organization’s decision comes on the heels of one made in 2019 by the Modesto Community Concert Association, when it presented its final season of shows.

The coronavirus pandemic forced the TCA to cancel the remaining two concerts of its five-concert season, presented at the Turlock Community Auditorium. Subscribers have been offered the choice of receiving a partial season refund or leaving their funds with the group to be donated to other music education and performance programs, the release said.

“We are so thankful to all the donors, subscribers, and others who have supported the Turlock Concert Association in our 80-year history of service to the Turlock-area community,” the release said. “This is a very sad time. We wish good health to everyone in the Turlock area and continued success to all our fellow performance and education organizations.”
