Modesto, Ceres get their festive going; Holiday Pops, other top entertainment options

Dickens Faire

Held inside and outside McHenry Mansion, the annual event features costumed carolers, a street fair with crafts and farmers market. Carriage rides available with fee. Free children’s activities at the McHenry Museum, 1402 I St., during the festival.

Modesto Christmas

Modesto’s celebrations start with a Breakfast with Santa at the Senior Center. The parade downtown starts at the corner of 14th and I streets. Then, stay for the kickoff of Rockin’ Holidays at Tenth Street Plaza with lights, snow machine flurries, the US 191st Army Band and more.

WHEN: Breakfast with Santa 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7; parade 5:30 p.m.; Rockin’ Holidays follows parade

Holiday Pops

Modesto Symphony Orchestra’s annual holiday program led by Associate Conductor Ryan Murray will feature Broadway’s Ryan Silverman, the MSO Chorus and the Modesto Symphony Youth Chorus.

“Trailer Park Christmas”

Sierra Repertory Theatre presents “The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical” in Sonora. Characters try to get the park’s resident Scrooge to decorate her trailer so they can win a decorating contest.

Ceres aglow

The region’s largest nightly neighborhood display returns as Ceres sets it Christmas Tree Lane aglow. A festival at Smyrna Park on Moffett Road features holiday activities. Then the parade begins and Christmas Tree Lane opens.

U.S. Air Force Band

The only active-duty Air Force band west of the Rockies, the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West is comprised of about 60 airmen-musicians under the command of Capt. Rafael F. Toro-Quiñones.
