Graffiti parade and fest
The North Modesto Kiwanis Classic Car Parade and American Graffiti Car Show and Festival return this weekend. Today’s parade route starts in downtown Modesto and goes to McHenry Avenue to Orangeburg and then back to downtown. The parade will feature close to 1,000 classic cars, hot rods and street rods. The festival runs Saturday and Sunday at Modesto Municipal Golf Course with classic cars, food and vendor booths and live music each day.
When: Parade starts 7 p.m. Friday; festival 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday

More Graffiti fun
The June Graffiti Summer events continue on Saturday with an Elvis tribute show at the State Theatre. The show features award-winning Elvis tribute artist Rob Ely. Also performing will be Third Party, Triple D & The Sensations, Kent Witt and the Down Beats, and Mike Allsup and Friends.

New Play Festival
The Modesto Junior College theater department presents its New Play Festival now through June 20, featuring original one-act plays written and directed by MJC theater students. The short works staged each night include “The Decision” by Christopher Wells; “The Case of Doctor Chase” by Sam Mellor; “A Party of Catherines” by Mar De La Cruz; “Omaha!” by Shane Meyers; “The Brothers Martelli” by Nick Salvucci; and “Running in Circles” by Salvador Vasquez.

Merced County Fair
The annual Merced County expo continues through Sunday with all the fair trimmings, including livestock exhibits, grandstand events, carnival games, rides and food. Concert artists include 7eventh Time Down, Tower of Power, John Lee Hooker Jr., Aaron Tippin and Tierra.

Reggae in the Hills
This three-day music festival features a variety of artists and bands including Ky-Mani Marley, Don Carlos, Bushman and Sister Carol at the Calaveras County Fairground. Food and camping also are available.

Art Walk
The Third Thursday Art Walk returns for its June outing this week, featuring art galleries, businesses and organizations that display art for the evening in downtown Modesto. The casual event features a diverse range of artwork and a chance to meet local artists, view and purchase artwork.
