Willie Nelson Modesto show nears; new concerts announced at Fruit Yard Amphitheatre

Country superstar Willie Nelson will open the first full season of shows at the new amphitheater in Modesto next week.

The Grammy-winning musical icon brings his Willie Nelson & Family tour to the new Basi Nationwide Fruit Yard Amphitheatre on Wednesday, May 8.

Two more shows have been announced for the outdoor venue this season, joining previously announced singer Frankie Valli on June 14 — a concert geared to the annual monthlong Graffiti Summer festival.

Also playing this year will be Justin Moore with Eric Paslay on July 12 and Buddy Guy with Jimmie Vaughan and Charlie Musselwhite on Aug. 11. More shows are expected to be announced for the current season.

Nelson was honored with his eighth Grammy award for best traditional pop album for “My Way” during this year’s 61st Grammy Awards. Nelson’s career includes music and movies, and he also is know for co-founding Farm Aid in 1985. Nelson has been nominated for Grammys 51 times.

The 85-year-old Texas singer-songwriter is known for numerous hits, including “Red Headed Stranger,” “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” and “Always on My Mind.”
