In brief: Arts events across the Modesto region
A new art show featuring a year’s worth of women’s work in a shared-art-book project will open this week.
The “12 Women, 12 Artists, 12 Art Books” exhibit opens Tuesday, June 2, at the Peer Recovery Art Project Gallery. The artists collaborated on the project over a 12-month period from January to December of last year. The art book was passed along to each of the artists throughout the year. In all, 144 works were created in the 12 separate art books. The show also will display other works of theirs, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, photography and more.
The show features local artists Chella Gonsalves, Chloe Fonda, Ruth Ann Spencer, Judith Cochran, Judith Levi-Wood, Janet Hardie, Betty Jean Reynolds and Henrietta Sparkman; Shari Kopecki from Indiana; Katie Carlson from Washington; and Susan Dee Salvatori and Clara Van Dykhuizen from Oregon.
The exhibit runs through June 30 and admission is free. The gallery is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. A public reception will be held from 5-9 p.m. June 18 with the artists. Visit www.peerrecoveryartproject.org.
