Poetry Festival

The Modesto-Stanislaus Poetry Center (MoSt) presents its sixth annual festival on Saturday. This year’s fest features guest artist William O’Daly and also will include workshops, a luncheon and a poetry contest. The event is open to the public.

“A Romantic Evening from Russian Masters”

MSO presents two evenings of Russian music – Tchaikovsky, Prokoviev and Shostakovich – for its next program. The “Romantic Evening from Russian Masters” concerts will be held Feb. 2-3 at the Gallo Center for the Arts. Music Director David Lockington leads the symphony in the program that will feature Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture” and an MSO premiere performance of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 featuring violinist Dylana Jenson.

“Renderings”

The Modesto Junior College dance department presents its Off-Balance troupe in “Renderings,” a concert of modern and contemporary dance. The ensemble of young and mature artists perform the dance that’s been choreographed by a variety of MJC instructors and students.

Pen Women Presents!

The 82-year-old Modesto branch of the National League of American Pen Women presents an art and poetry exhibition through February and March at the Carolyn Huff Photography Studio in downtown Modesto. The event features readings of regional, national and international artists and writers. The NLAPW was founded in 1897 when female journalists were not permitted to join the National Press Club.

Youth Symphony concert

The Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) presents its annual spring concert on Saturday at Gallo Center for the Arts. The MSYO is comprised of nearly 120 area youth in two ensembles, each of which will perform. The Concert Orchestra is a beginner-to-intermediate ensemble, and the Symphony Orchestra is an advanced full orchestra led by Ryan Murray, the music director of the MSYO.
